John Wasielewski is a Principal at Aligned Intermediary, where he focuses on identifying investment opportunities and engaging with financial institutions, multilateral development banks, government agencies, and non-governmental organizations that are promoting sustainable development.
John founded and served as Director of the Office of Development Credit within the United States Agency for International Development (USAID); this office promotes and regulates the US government’s use of credit globally in connection with efforts to mobilize local private-sector financing for small and medium-sized enterprises, infrastructure finance, energy projects, education, health, housing, and urban services. Under his leadership the USAID Office of Development Credit extended over 250 guarantees mobilizing ~$3 billion of local capital in 64 countries over 13 years; additionally, the Office managed a portfolio of direct loans and guarantees valued at over $12 billion.
Currently John assists the US Department of State, USAID, and Power Africa as an advisor on finance for their involvement with the UN-led Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) initiatives. John also continues his association with USAID as Principal Advisor to the recently established Private Capital Group, which promotes private investment in support of business solutions to socio-economic challenges.
John received his Master of Science in Planning and Management from Boston University. He is a longstanding Board Member of The Caleb Foundation, a not-for-profit focused on providing affordable housing and community services throughout New England.
